Barack Obama’s 2008 presidential campaign was all about hope and change. “In the end,” he opined, “that’s what this election is about. Do we participate in a politics of cynicism or a politics of hope?”
But as the past 43 months have reminded us, elections inevitably give way to governing and unfounded hopes often lead to disappointment.
The economy Obama and millions of Americans hoped for has little resemblance to the economy we have today.
